Tales from the Trenches w/Adam Scheinberg Pt.3

Rajiv:

Welcome back to 2m2x, our weekly video series on digital transformation sponsored by Informlate. Last week, I interviewed Adam Sheinberg, who's the VP of Technology at Massey Services on his journey with digital transformation. Click the link below to get the whole recording of the interview and his recommendations for tools and resources. In that interview, we covered the challenges of working within a non digital business and moving towards digital transformation. Now as a CIO or CTO, don't you wish you could just wave your magic wand and just implement all the technology you wanted?

Rajiv:

Then you could show the CEO how technology can truly transform the business. Unfortunately, that option doesn't exist. Right? Priorities, breaking issues, budgets, resources, they all need to align. So how do you affect organizational change when you have a business model that predates the birth of the Internet?

Rajiv:

As the saying goes, "What got you here, won't get you there." Transformation often seems unnecessary when the current business is doing fine. The problem is it could become unattainable when disruption hits and the time and resources aren't available anymore. So how do you balance that? Adam reveals some insights about how he approaches this within his organization.

Rajiv:

It is very much about the tech team partnering deeply with the business knowing that transformation is a long game. It is a two way conversation of business feeling comfortable coming to the tech team, and the tech team being empowered to pitch ideas back to the business. It's about relationship building and recognizing that transformation involves disruption, and existing internal hierarchies may need to change. So this process must be handled very, very carefully. Communication is absolutely the name of the game.

Rajiv:

In such a context, a tech leader doesn't wanna be seen as chasing the shiny object or the trend of the day. It's about building partnerships through a deep understanding of business objectives for tech leaders to speak the language of the business. What is the strategic direction? What markets are entering? What new services are we going to offer?

Rajiv:

And how can technology help us get there faster, better, and cheaper? With that in mind, join us week for our deep dive into business model. We'll talk about tools such as business model canvas, the value proposition canvas, and experimentation. See you next week.
